As Chris mentioned in the video, we were invited to participate in a round table discussion with the Canadian Parliamentary Israel Allies Caucus and His Excellency Iddo Moed, Israel’s Ambassador to Canada.
Members of Parliament were joined by various Jewish and Christian organizations. I’d like to share some key points from His Excellency’s speech with you, as they provide areas for strategic prayer.
He extensively discussed the two-state solution, emphasizing that Israel would be open to it if assured of recognition of its right to exist. But neither the Palestinian authority, Hamas or Hezbollah has done so, posing a significant obstacle. No country should be expected to engage in an agreement with a party openly unwilling to uphold its terms.
Let’s pray for Israel’s strength and tenacity amid calls, including from our Canadian government, for a two-state solution. Pray for allies to understand the danger of any treaty with Hamas, which seeks not coexistence but the annihilation of Israel and its people.
Ambassador Moed stressed the importance of our Canadian Parliament calling for the release of the hostages. Not a single country has done this. It’s believed that Hamas still holds over 100 hostages. Dr. Itai Pessach, who treated the freed hostages, noted signs of physical and sexual abuse, including branding. Children were marked with burn scars to identify them if they tried to escape.
The conditions the hostages are facing are undeniably dreadful. It’s been over 130 days, and even young children are still held captive. Let’s pray for our Members of Parliament to find the courage to advocate for the hostages’ release. Pray for a motion to be introduced in Parliament officially demanding their release and pray that it garners majority support. Let’s pray that urging for the release of hostages triggers a domino effect among other world leaders and governments. Regardless of their alliances, there must be a way to spin the support of releasing innocent hostages without jeopardizing diplomatic relationships.
Pray that the IDF would receive supernatural intelligence regarding the locations of the hostages and receive military strategy for their rescue.
Antisemitism has surged worldwide in recent days. When I asked about practical steps the church could take to support the Jewish community, His Excellency advised reaching out to them and expressing our solidarity. He suggested organizing Pro-Israel rallies to advocate for the release of hostages. Even small gestures can provide comfort to the Jewish community.
“Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.”
Isaiah 40:1
“You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.”
Isaiah 40: 9-10
Update
Since writing this blog, Pierre Poilievre gave a press conference on February 15, 2024 and when asked about Hamas, he calls on them to free the hostages, lay down their arms, and surrender all the terrorists who carried out the genocidal attacks on October 7. He said, “I call on Hamas to do that. Otherwise Hamas has to be destroyed.”
The following is a twitter post with the video of Poilievre making these statements.
