Get out and vote—and help others do the same. Be intentional. Make a plan. Show up. Encourage your friends and family to be engaged, especially young voters who may feel disconnected. Offer to drive someone, remind them of voting dates, and be a voice of encouragement. Your involvement can make a real difference.
During the debate, the party leaders assured us that their fully costed platforms are on the way. As soon as they’re released, we’ll let you know where to find them. Take time to read them carefully and pray about what you see. Use these platforms as tools to guide your decisions with wisdom and discernment.
Most importantly, listen to the Lord. Don’t let your political preferences become idols. Be willing to follow God’s leading, even if it challenges your assumptions. Let obedience to God guide your political choices.
Don’t Let Your Party Become an Idol: Voting with a Listening Heart
By Chris Byberg | Director, National House of Prayer
A Giant Ballot and a Simple Message
Filming from Ottawa, Chris Byberg opens with a lighthearted story—he and his wife Marilyn just voted, and their ballot had 91 names on it! The sheet was so large, he jokes, it felt like folding a road map. But behind the humor is a serious reminder: voting is important, and everyone should be engaged—especially by helping younger voters who may feel disillusioned or overwhelmed.
Costed Platforms and Discernment
Chris notes that party platforms are still being released and finalized. While promises abound, fully costed platforms offer clarity about what each party really intends to do—and how they’ll pay for it. NHOP is working to provide voters with accurate comparisons as soon as this data becomes available.
In the meantime, he encourages believers to remain prayerful and attentive to the Lord’s voice as they prepare to vote.
Listening to the Lord, Not Just the Party
One of the central messages in this video is a powerful challenge:
Has your favorite political party become an idol?
Chris shares a personal story from over 20 years ago when he was asked to run for office with his preferred political party. But the incumbent, though not on “his team,” was a strong believer and a righteous leader. After praying, Chris clearly heard God say:
“Vote for this man. He is a righteous man.”
Even though it meant voting outside of his political comfort zone, Chris obeyed—and believes it was the right call. The message is clear: don’t let loyalty to a party override obedience to God.
Final Encouragement
As the election nears, Chris urges Canadians to:
-
Vote—and encourage others, especially young people, to do the same.
-
Watch for costed platforms—and vote with knowledge.
-
Listen to God above all else—because righteousness and wisdom matter more than party lines.
“He might have a change for you—you just never know.”
