We’ve now had a little bit of time to process what happened with Bill C-4 in the House of Commons and in the Senate. Both houses bypassed a lot of the protocols and pushed the bill through much faster than anticipated. There was no debate or committees formed in either house. Not only were many of our friends in the House of Commons caught off guard, many senators were surprised by the quick vote.
Senator Don Plett actually came out of his sick bed to attend and wasn’t given the opportunity to speak. It is interesting to note that in both houses, a Conservative MP and a Conservative Senator made the motions to fast track this bill. This was certainly a wake up call to where hidden agendas lie.
In situations like this, our first reactions are usually to point the finger. Some initially laid blame on our friends in the House of Commons and the Senate. Then, later we blamed the church for not being engaged enough. Perhaps some of us blamed ourselves for not paying attention. Maybe we should have prayed more.
I know that none of this surprised God. For me, this has now become a season to reflect on what God is after. Where are you Lord in all of this? In the next few weeks, even through this busy Christmas season, I believe we need to slow down.
In Revelation 4, God says, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”
In this season, I would like to encourage you to take time to focus on Worship, Adoration and intimate Prayer. When we go up higher, we can see things from God’s perspective. As Revelation 4 continues, from this height we are able to see “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come. and that He is worthy to receive glory and honor and power, for Him all things were created and by His will they were created and have their being.”
When we “Come up here”, we see how big our God actually is. And from that place, He will give us strategy to release His Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven. It is from this vantage point where we will be able to grasp the truth that “he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth.” (Isaiah 42:4)
Let me encourage you again during this Christmas season to take the time to focus on Him. “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13b)
